I have a HP Pavilion Elite e9100z CTO computer. When I try to play computer games, my monitor goes to sleep. I can't get it turned back on and have to cold shut down the computer. This isn't good for the operating system, whic I have Windows Vista 64-bit. I checked to see if it was the driver, but that wasn't the problem. The game that is happens all the time is the Sims 3 and I have all EPs and SPs.
I don't know why my monitor goes black and goes to sleep while playing the Sims 3. Can this game be too much for my computer? I checked the games specs and my computer is up to the challenge. I am confused. Help!
Thanks.

Hello,
Thanks for your post!
Either its the game you are playing or the monitor!
What monitor model do you have? What connection are u using DVI or VGA? Does your video card support DVI and VGA? Can you try to use a different video connection? Does this problem happens only with SIMS? Have you tried to check for a update for the game on the games website?
Also, did you tried to make a factory reset on the monitor OSD menu?
Let me know if this helped, and do tell me what is the brand and model of your video card.
Thanks,

Hi,
It was suggested that I connect the monitor to a different computer and I did. The monitor worked without a problem on the other computer. I played my usual games without a problem.
What should I do next? Apparently, the monitor is not the issue. Can it be my video card gone bad, or is it an operating system issue. I have Windows Vista Media.
Thanks.

GT 220 seems to be small for gaming ...
If it's not the same card I would test this at the next step.
Maybe either your gpu becomes hot or is damaged.
You can try to monitor your gpu with gpu-z or rivatuner.
Watch the temperature.
Or just change the cards of both pcs.

After trying the monitor on a different computer, the monitor stopped working on the other computer, so it is the monitor. I will need to buy a new monitor in the future when I have the cash for it. Then I will see if I have the same problem with the new montior installed. If it isn't the monitor, then it must be the video card.
The current monitor works just as long as no games are played. I have a gaming computer, so I do definitely need to buy a new monitor.
Thanks for you help. If there are any future problems, I will contact HP.
