new cpu insalled/having issues

Hello,

So I just upgraded my cpu with with one I bought off e-bay, but when it booted it booted up the resolution is messed up. Giant letters and under "device manager" > processors, it still registers my old processor. My Windows Score does recognize my new processor, I tryed clicking "Update my score" but I droped to 1.0 from my previous 5.9. I decided to download an older version of my BIOS, but it didn't do the trick. Did I skip a step or something?

Re: new cpu insalled/having issues

Hi,

Please post the HP product number for your PC.

Please post the exact processor model number that you purchased.

Back leveling the bios is not recommended and normally shouldn't be done.

I installed a AMD Phenom X4 9600. I think the messed up resolution has to do more with my graphics card, I have a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT installed. I took the graphics card out and my resolution went back to it's native 1680X1050. However, when I took the card out my internet sttopped working, it didn't recognize my network or something. So I had to put it back in, now I have internet, but the resolution is messed up again. I also had this appear a twice ot three times now:

Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown

Problem signature:
Problem Event            NAme: BlueScreen
OS Version:              6.0.6002.2.2.0768.3
Locale ID:               1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode                   50
BCP1:                    FFFFFA6007AA7000
BCP2:                    0000000000000000
BCP3:                    FFFFF80001CC882
OS Version:              6_0_6002
Service Pack:            2_0
Product:                 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini04512-03.dmp
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\WER-70138-0.sysdata.xml
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local|Temp\WER2847.tmp.version.txt

The weird thing is, it looks like this affected another computer I have connected to the network, because the blue screen caome up on that computer as well..I'm so confused.

Re: new cpu insalled/having issues

Another thing...it's not recognizing my grahics card. Instead of the usual  Nvidia GeForce9400GT under device manager>display adaptors, it just says:

Display Adaptors:

 Standar VGA Graphics Adaptor

Re: new cpu insalled/having issues

Hi,

The NVIDIA GT 9400 requires at least a 350 watt to 400 watt power supply depending on the card manufacturer.

The original processor is your PC was rated at 65 watts and now you are going to a 90 watt processor.

Your PC only has a 300 watt power supply so it is probably being over loaded. A weak power supply will cause all kinds of wierd things to happened,.

Re: new cpu insalled/having issues

I removed the graphics card and the resolution is fixed once again, AND the internet works fine. It seems like the processor is working fine. Everything seems ok, except under device management it's registering my old processor 9150e instead of my new 9600. Is there anything I should make sure to do now.

HI,

Try clearing the CMOS and see if that will get the bios to present the correct processor to Windows.

Re: new cpu insalled/having issues

I think I got it, I uninstalled the processors under device manager and restarted the pc, then it recognized the new processor and installed them!

Hi,

Prior to powering up would have been my choice for clearing the CMOS.
