no sound comes from inbuilt speakers but system troubleshoots no problems

I have no sound coming from the inbuilt speakers in my all in one HP touch smart 520-1170a desk top PC. When i plug headphones in the sound works fine. I have a HP sub woofer fitted into the sub jack in the rear of the monitor. I have tried the troubleshooting suggestions and even checked for audio updates. My unit was the display model from the local store i bought it from.

Any ideas would be helpfull as i have spoken to an IT friend of mine and he has told me to ring HP or return the unit for a new one.

I just bought a dc5850 and I had only right channel from the rear line-out.  I had good sound from the built in single speaker.  Whether it is left or right or both, I don't know.  While researching the line-out problem, I came across this:  reboot and repeating hitting F10 to get into computer setup.  Go towards to the right tabs and you will come across an option to turn on the built in speaker.

BTW,  do you have left and right sound coming out from the line-out?  Did you have to hunt for it?  If so,  please share.
