Re: "Access Denied" error when trying to install Drivers for HP 2310M Monitor

Hi,

Be sure that you downloaded the correct file. Right mouse click on the file and select run as administrator.

If the problem still occurs then try the following article that was posted on Microsoft's Social net.

This issue is caused by the monitor driver update fails to access following
files.

C:\Windows\inf\infpub.dat
C:\Windows\inf\infstor.dat
C:\Windows\inf\infstrng.dat
C:\Windows\inf\drvindex.dat
C:\Windows\inf\INFCACHE.1

Please follow these steps to set the permission of these files.

1. Negative to C:\Windows\inf\
2. Right click infpub.dat and choose properties.
3. Select Security tab, click Edit.
4. Click the current User Account name, check Full Control checkbox as Allow.

Note : If the current User Account name is not listed, please click “Add”,
following the “Enter the object name to select” title, type in the current
User Account name and then click Ok.

5. Click Apply, click OK.

Please repeat the above steps with infstor.dat, infstrng.dat, drvindex.dat
and INFCACHE.1.

After that trying to install the driver once again.

Re: "Access Denied" error when trying to install Drivers for HP 2310M Monitor

When searching the folder Windows/INF.  I don't see those files you referenced.

However I am having another issue, the INF folder is set to "read only" and it will not let me change this so I am unable to peform any of these steps.

Please let me know if you can help.  Thank you.

Re: "Access Denied" error when trying to install Drivers for HP 2310M Monitor

I tried the first suggestion "run as administrator" and that's where I get the "access denied" error.

The second suggestion does not work either when I go to the link because I can't update the drivers based on this "access denied" error.

I am stuck at "access denied" an am unable to proceed from this point.

Please help.  Thanks.

Re: "Access Denied" error when trying to install Drivers for HP 2310M Monitor

Hi,

There are many suggestions to try from the Microsoft link that I referenced above.  You may need to try several of them.

Try this:

Download the latest monitor driver from HP's web site to your desktop.

Download the latest video card driver from the manufacturers web site to your desktop.

Go to the Control Panel --> Programs and uninstall the HP Display if it exists but do not reboot yet. Now uninstall the video card driver. Now reboot.

After you boot up the video will not look good due to the use of default video drivers. Now install the video card driver and reboot and adjust your screen resolution.  Then install the monitor driver update.

Re: "Access Denied" error when trying to install Drivers for HP 2310M Monitor

How do you uninstall the video card driver?

I forgot to mention I am using a KVM?  It says "KVM Monitor" and there is no option to add the HP monitor I am using.

Are the HP monitor settings still relevant/needed since I am using a KVM?  Once in a while, I still get this out of range error and then it says to adjust to 1920x1080 but I can't because there is no option for this resolution.

What should I do at this point?  Please help.  Thanks.
