w17e monitor not working

Computer turned on, screen wouldn't light up.  I pushed the on-off button, screen lit up, very faint, for a few seconds, then went back off.  Hit the start button, same thing.   Is about 3 years old, has been working fine.  Suggestions?

Are you referring to the on/off button on the monitor?  Hold down the monitor's power button for 30-60 seconds and then power on the monitor.  Go to the monitor's menu and do a factory reset.

When the power comes on, the only thing that happens is that the box "cable not connected" comes up, very faint, for just a couple seconds.  When I push the menu button, nothing happens.   The box disappears and after about 30 seconds it starts to make a little bit of burning smell.

It did the same thing when I had it connected to my computer with the cable.

Try the monitor and cable on another PC and if it does the same thing then your monitor is bad and it's time for a replacement.
