w2207h Monitor TV display

I have a w2207h display with an Nvidia 512 mb card in an m9340f with 6g memory. When I play movies or TV you would think that if it is widescreen the picture would be all the way across the screen...no ? I understand that it the show is not widescreen then I would have a black bar on either end of the screen. When I play a show that is widescreen I get the black bars at either end of my screen (very black computer/monitor generated ones) and the original TV/movie ones (which show much lighter) at the top and bottom. This defeats the purpose of having a widescreen monitor, which I can't seem to impress upon techs at HP I talk to. There has got to be an issue with the card or settings, which they cannot help me with. Anuone know the optimal resolution or settings for this card/monitor ? Also, the TV signal shows up like crap, with an OEM Hauppage card. Too many scrolling lines and just generally terrible picture. This unit is sold as a Media Centre machine. I do not have an HD satellite signal but regular digital. I have the monitor hooked up with the DVI cable. Should I change to VGA cable ? Have tried hooking the satellite box up with coax/AV and S Video cables...all seemingly the same signal. Any help would be greatly appreciated to hopefully enjoy this media unit better. Thanks

Re: w2207h Monitor TV display

Hi Steve,

It sounds like your resolution settings are not correct on your PC.

The video signal could be a couple things, one of those is also related to resolution.

To get video to show on your screen properly, you need to have the PC set to right resolution and the monitor needs to be capable of the resolution, AND the video signal itself needs to be capable of being shown in the resolution you have set.

On my PC at home, I have an Elite PC (similar to yours, but not the same model) connected to a 47inch HD TV. I use digital satelite for TV (not HD satelite). I actually have to dumb down my resolution to watch it though, because the video signal is not capable of showing correctly at the higher resolution. To watch TV, I have to dumb down to 800x600, but if I want to watch a DVD I can use the proper HD resolution of 1920x1080 and then the DVDs show properly.

From looking on your monitor support manual, your monitor prefers this resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz

You can try setting your resolution to that and see how it performs, but keep the other things I mentioned in mind too.

Re: w2207h Monitor TV display

Hi, I recently bought a complete system that included this monitor.  I have noticed my w2207h runs in 1680 x 1050, but when restarted it resets itself to 1360 x 768 automatically.  The problem with this is that it will only allow me to raise it to 1600 x 1200, which is an unsupported resolution.  So to get it back up to it's native 1680 x 1050, I have to restart the computer again.  I don't know if this is your problem, but I have become frustrated with having to reboot the computer to get the correct resolution, and I've tried two different monitors of this model.
