I recently got this monitor for my new system and had it hooked up with its VGA cable using a DVI adapter to connect it to my GPU. I noticed despite the screen looking great generally that GTalk looked washed out and something just wasn't right. Then I noticed while all pics look fine in my web browsers, pictures I had that were taken from a webcam that used to look good on my laptop now look bad on here. There is a noticeable loss of quality display of those specific low size images.Kinda blotchy and pixelated but not really washed out like my GTalk app.
I have driver 3.0.0.0 installed dated 8/12/2009. I thought using a nice Premium 24AWG High Speed CL2 Rated HDMI cable would fix this issue but it has not. Is this a known defect? Could it be a hardware or software problem? To be sure it is in fact the monitor I hooked up the VGA to my laptop and got the same results. It is the monitor and not the source. Please advise. (Running Win7 x64)

Hi,
Since you get the same issue with the monitor on two different PCs then try different known good cables. The best picture quality for the HP w2207h will be with a digital connection at 1680 by 1050 resolution.
Use a native picture viewing application to ensure that you don't have an application issue and be sure to evaluate the images on two different PCs using a different monitor to make sure that the images are good.

Any *new* ideas please? If I can at least verify it is in fact a defect I'm fine with that. But not knowing if I should return it or if it's a setting is a problem. I have another month to do so.

Hi,
I have seen too many people swap one bad cable for the other and claim that the cables were good so that's why I typically asked about using "known" good cables.
Try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.
If you still get the same issue then contact HP Support. HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.
