w2216 widescreen monitor behavior

My pc is a presario sw1023wm bought in 2004 and has been a good one. Upgraded the ram to 760 and hard drive to 250GB one year ago. I just upgraded to a w2216h flat widescreen brightview one week ago. It's a refurbish from ebay. Looks good and operates fine mostly. The only problem is when I'm watching some media on full screen the video rolls from top to bottom in a slow motion like frame segments instead of normal and smooth. When I escape back to regular viewing it plays ok. However, while watching c-span live streaming in full screen mode it works just fine. Also you tube videos in full screen mode also plays just fine. On msnbc full screen videos it rolls...also on sci-fi episodes when in full screen. But isn't that what a bigger monitor is for...bigger screen viewing? After reading some post and others problems with theirs this doesn't seem too bad. But was wondering if this is normal? Still have the crt monitor for backup just in case. lol

So my question is this, is this normal behavior? The color is great and resolution is as should be. Seems to operate well except for this one thing. Perhaps I need a newer pc. Planning to up ram to max of 1gig.

Oh yeah..one other thing. After having new hard drive upgraded I had to install programs...anti-virus, firewall and so forth, and other other stuff. So tweaked and tinkered a week or two. Forgot to install the windows service pack 2 right away. My auto update was on and bam...it auto installed service pack 3. Is this a problem? Am afraid to install sp2 now. Sure wish things were so confusing.

Thanks for any help and putting my mind at rest about it, as the warranty is still in force for a few more weeks yet.

Just a granny loving her pc and the web.

Re: w2216 widescreen monitor behavior

Is the resolution set to the native 1680 x 1050 @ 60Hz? Because this is a widescreen monitor, some older video drivers can have problems matching the native resolution.

You might want to update the video drivers if you cannot get this exact display resolution in Windows. Most video card manufacturers have released updates that enable their video hardware to detect and use more resolution - but you have to install the updated drivers.

Re: w2216 widescreen monitor behavior

Thanks for reply. Yes that is the resolution it is set on. When I hooked up the monitor it automatically  added the correct resolution that wasn't in the settings prior in display settings. I also installed the driver and software for it from this site. Also in the desktop display settings it is set on high color but in other settings it is set on true color. Should I change those settings to high color?

I'm in the process of updating those drivers. Driver detective picked up 15 out of date and I installed one yesterday. I had no idea till I ran the scan and had to buy the program to update. I do regular window updates and maintenace to keep my pc running.

When I finish with the updates I'll let you know if that fixed the problem. Also going to add more ram next month to it's max capacity of 1gig and I have 87% free space on hard drive.

Thanks again

Re: w2216 widescreen monitor behavior

I would not mess around with color setting if the color looks good to you.

Also... Service Pack 3 already containes Service Pack 2 so you should not try to install SP2.

Re: w2216 widescreen monitor behavior

Thanks for that info. I didn't know that and it is a relief to know.

It appears that it is not my monitor that causes the rolling video. It seems to be the players used on certain sites. When played with real player or windows media player it plays just fine in full screen, like on democracy now and c-span. So I'm going to leave well enough alone. Perhaps a new pc would play them all correctly, I don't know, but I am shopping around for a new tower, maybe when windows 7 is released.

Thanks again. I love this forum! :womanvery-happy:
