wavy horizontal lines and computer freeze

I was getting wavy horizontal lines and then computer would freeze and require a hard start. I restarted in safe mode and lines still there but didn't freeze. Lines changed to pink vertical every 4 inches when changed display settings. Screen is perfect when auto adjusting and then lines show up. I updated NVIDIA and Realtech drivers but no help. What the heck is going on?

Yes, maybe you can test the monitor with this cable at the laptop.
If it works there, then you have to check your pc.

What model of 8800GT do you have ?
With a fan?
is it running properly?
Have you cleaned your pc inside in the last time?
Do you have a temperature monitoring software for your graphics card like gpu-z or rivatuner?

This is the exact problem we had with one of our HPE h8 1260t.  We bought two of these and within 5 days of each other both graphic cards quit.  One gave the squiggly then vertical lines you are talking about, and the other just quit.  Blank screen.

Our cards are AMD Radon HD 7570 cards.  on phone with hp for support for 2:20.  Tech to be here soon to replace the cards with AMD hD7570 Bronco2 cards.
