I just installed a new monitor hp 2311x on win 7 64bit. the resolution options offered only go to 1680x1050. isn't this monitor a 1920x1080? how do i set it up to show this option? thanks

What does the PC think is connected in terms of the monitor, this info would be in the Device Manager? You need to get the PC to recognize that a 2311x is connected. Did you install the driver that is on the CD? Also it is possible the cable is at fault.
Cheers,
