Blu-ray e9240f

Why does it seem so hard for HP to figure out that they have a generic problem with Blu-ray and the DH403S drive?

They want me to do diags and send me another drive.  And then they want a credit card number in case I don't return the old drive.  Not.  I already know that none of this will help.  There is a bigger problem here.  You all have already shown that.

Re: Blu-ray e9240f

We have a different Blu-ray drive hardware but our machine is also unable to play Blu-ray movies using the HP MediaSmart DVD software.  Does your drive play Blu-Ray if you use another companies blu-ray software, try the demo version of the cyberlink software.  Did you do an upgrade to Win7?

Re: Blu-ray e9240f

I replaced the Blu-ray drive in one of my two e9240f machines and it works, using either the software that came with the drive (Cyberlink 7 maybe), or MediaSmart (updated).  Yesterday I installed a MediaSmart software update from HP that was listed as fixing a Windows 7 upgrade issue, but I think it may also have fixed my problem.  I am on the road now and will be for the next month of two, so I have not extensively tested it.  MediaSmart is not a user friendly program.

Out of the box, neither one of my computers would play Blu-ray.  HP has been of zero help to resolve this issue.  The e9240f came preloaded with Windows 7.

Re: Blu-ray e9240f

i bought my e9240f back in nov & started having issues days later. my harddrive was corrupted so i sent the tower back for a replacement, got that nov 18th & after uninstalling norton internet suite, mediasmart dvd didn't work. went round n round with hp til i was blue in the face, even went as far as accepting a replacement drive & installed that & still no joy. knew it wouldn't work because it's a software issue, not hardware imho. i had installed avast 4 home a/v & comodo firewall & since had had no issues on my dell xp machine, read that these programs were compatible with windows 7, so thought all was well in that department. decided to go on my own & purchased windvd pro 10 & was able to play blu ray since i bought this tower was for watching movies etc. never did get any satisfaction from hp tech support, altho they did try. i also bought another blu ray player & installed that but still couldn't get mediasmart dvd to work. only when i started having freezing probs with comodo f/w & decided to install a different product that was able to finally play a blu ray with mediasmart dvd. don't know if you're using norton or not, but it's often a software conflict as to why mediasmart dvd won't play movies. if you decide to replace your drive, just send the other drive back to hp in the packaging provided & your credit card isn't charged. simple as that. hope this helps somebody along the line, i know from experience how frustrating this has been. hard to believe you pay good money for something that didn't work right out of the box! never could get powerdvd to work either, but after changing firewalls, it also downloaded a needed update & works fine now as well. keep trying, there's a solution out there, just have to find it :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Blu-ray e9240f

I uninstalled Norton using Revo.  Then installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

When I replaced the Lite On DH403S with an LG drive, and then MediaSmart would play, it seemed pretty clear to me that the drive had a firmware problem.  Unfortunately Lite-On does not support this drive.  Support has to come through HP.  What worries me now is that HP may have done something to MediaSmart to handle the drive firmware issues that may now affect other brand drives.

I saw LG Blu-ray drives at WalMart yesterday for $110.  Did not notice if they were SATA or IDE.

On one machine, I have changed the drive and am using the Cyberlink software that was bundled with it.  Other machine still has all original components.  I plan to do some more testing when I return home.  I will pursue your suggestion of conflicting software.

It's just bugs me so much that it did not work out of the box.  What happened to quality control?  The two machines I bought were bought in two different states, one month apart.  I don't think the problem is just my bad luck.  I only intended to buy the one machine for my daughter.  When it did not work, I assumed I had one bad machine and would have to drive back to my state to return it.  But when I went out and bought a second machine so that she would have something working when I left, and it too did not work, you can see why I got a little ticked off.

Re: Blu-ray e9240f

don't blame you at all for feeling the way you do. i replaced my blu ray drive with an lg uh08ls10 retail version that came bundled with cyberlink suite v6, same as was preinstalled on the e9240f, but i uninstalled hp's copy since it didn't work. haven't had any probs since i changed firewalls as mentioned. you say you installed mse for a/v, what are you using for a f/w? i doubt seriously that hp will ever offer any firmware updates for the dh403s. have already updated the firmware on my new drive using their updater that came with the cyberlink disc. have you noticed there's a new update on the driver page for this model for mediasmart dvd? doesn't have a description so i am leary to install since now i don't have any issues. if it ain't broke... anyway, good luck!

Re: Blu-ray e9240f

I see that  HP has now posted a MediaSmart update dated March 2010.  Don't know if this will help, I'm out of town on business, but will give it a try when I return home.

Re: Blu-ray e9240f

Hi,

Same problems for two months with Bluray and my e9240f. I tried the Media player update and it said the e9240f did not meet the minimum standards for an update. Weird.
