Blue Ray Disc Won't Play

I insert a blue ray disc, It starts the HP MediaSmart Player and then comes up with an error message stating:

Information

The content is protected.

The content is not allowed to play in the current display mode.

The computer is only a month old and has never played a blue ray.  its plays regular DVD just fine.

Any ideas what the problem coould be?

Re: Blue Ray Disc Won't Play

David,

Your PC is probably not in HCDP mode.  Your monitor must have a DVI or HDMI connector and your PC video system must also have a DVI or HDMI connector.

What model HP PC are you using and how is the monitor cabled to the PC?

There is another possibility that the AACS software on the PC needs updating.

Re: Blue Ray Disc Won't Play

My computer is a HP Pavilion Elite HPE-235 Desktop PC.  It is connected to my monitor by a DVI cable.  How do I find out if my computer is in HCDP mode.  I can't find any thing in the help section.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Blue Ray Disc Won't Play

I am having exact same problem running Back to the Future and Avatar Blue-Ray disks. Called HP tech support today and they were not familiar with the problem. I updated Pavilion dv6 laptop Bios, then Nvidia drivers and software and finally uninstalled HP Media Smart DVD and reinstalled all to no avail. DVDs operate fine on all my other computers and on DVD units attached to TVs. Any ideas would be appreciated.

A wild thought. Apple updated its Quicktime and iTunes software this past week and it screwed up all of my playlist addresses in WinAmp and Media Monkey. I'm wondering if it could have impacted my video as well.

Re: Blue Ray Disc Won't Play

Hi,

It seems that your PC has old version of MediaSmart installed, and it does not get updated from Cyberlink (Who created PowerDVD too).

Please follow the steps given below to get it resolved.

Click Start->Control Panel->PRograms and Features. Select MediaSmart DVD and click Uninstall. Uninstall PowerDVD too.

Install MediaSmart New Version:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49489.exe

Or

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50778.exe

If it does not work, install Trial copy of PowerDVD:

http://fs20.filehippo.com/2848/8de9788827844c8e9a5071f7ee9232c4/CyberLink.2325(Trial)_DVD101118-01.e...

Thank You.

Re: Blue Ray Disc Won't Play

Both the Applications should support Windows Vista.

As an alternative to HP MediaSmart, install HP DVD Play from HP:

Windows Vista/7

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp45501-46000/sp45648.exe

Thank You.
