CD/DVD tray on my Pavilion will not close.

CD/DVD tray on my Pavilion (a6658t) will not close. The drive door was open and the tray was out while removing a CD & someone hit it  with their knee (not too hard) & now it won't close. When you try to push it in, it just stops. Any ideas on  how to fix this? Thanks

Re: CD/DVD tray on my Pavilion will not close.

Hi,

Does the CD door close when you power cycle the PC?

Open up my computer and find the optical drive. If you see it, then right mouse click on it and select eject.  What happens? Do you hear any noises?

If my computer does not see the optical drive then it's possible that the power cable for drive got knocked loose.  Unplug the PC and remove the side panel.  Check the cables going to optical drive and make sure that they are on tight.

Re: CD/DVD tray on my Pavilion will not close.

Hi everyone. I would rather use this topic to discuss my own problem instead of creating a new one with the same title.

My CD/DVD tray is intact, has no broken components. However, it just does not want to stay close.

I have tried several things, reboot with and without a disc, turn on/off the drive, and even removing the actual drive physically from the laptop.

It seams to be a hardware problem, as soon as it gets switched on, it immediately ejects the tray, the only way to keep it shut, is by having the laptop off, and that's not good, is it?

Here's the details...

Laptop: HP Pavilion dv6 - VY333AE

CD/DVD Drive: AD-7586 ATA

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

I would appreciate any kind of support that can be provided.

Thank you in advance.
