CD only plays first track, then skips the rest

Hi, I have a problem with the CD drive on my Compaq Presario CQ3020AN. Whenever I put an audio cd in, I can play or import about half of the first song, and then it skips to the next track, which it fails to play, and then rapidly skips through the rest of the songs without playing them (occasionally playing another half a song somewhere around the middle of the cd). This happens irrespective of whether I'm using Windows Media Player or Itunes. In Itunes it just skips through the rest of the songs without playing them, while on WMP I get an error message saying that the disc might be damaged (which it isn't) and could be fixed using CD error correction (which it can't).

This happens with all types of music cd (bought and burnt).

DVDs play well, it's just audio cds that are a problem

I have re-installed the drivers but it hasn't helped.

It first started doing this sometime last year. A bit later, I had to get Windows re-installed, and for a few days after that, the CD drive worked fine, but then stopped working again.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I had the same problem and it was resolved when I updated
