Can't play Blu Rays with HP DVD Play BD & HD DVD software

Hi, 

Yes, it is a Known issue with Few New BD movies released in the market such as Avatar, Scot Pilgrim, Expandables, and ToyStory 3 etc,

Please use PowerDVD Trial for a While, however, give a try to MediaSmart DVD from the URL given below. 

Uninstall HP DVD Play. Install MediaSmart DVD from the URL given below. 

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49489.exe

Launch it, click File Menu, click update software, and try playing new BD Movies.

That did the trick. Everything I threw at it worked fine. I did try to do an update, the font is illegible on my screen and it only gave me the option of closing that window. Can't tell what version it is.

 I seem to be having the exact same problem described in this thread, but I have a desktop: Pavilion m9300t. I haven't tried to play a blu-ray disc for a while (years?). I've tried 2, and for both, the HP DVD play says I need to check for updates, but doesn't find any (I tried to check manually too, but it said the software was up to date). I tried download mentioned above at: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50778.exe, but that would not install. Sounds like that software is for laptops though? Are there any other fixes I can try?

I'm having problems with my blueray and dvd player on my laptop. It keep telling me that Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD. The disc was created in a manner that the Player does not support. I used all parts of the troubleshooting download to try and eliminate the problem, but it still did not work.
