I have an HP Pavilion using Vista home edition. The computer did not recognize the CD drive during the warranty period and an HP technician fixed the problem. When the warranty expired I called HP twice and they refused to do anything and just told me to buy a new computer.
As this is an existing problem which many people are experiencing, and no published fixes seem to have any effect, I am disappointed that HP refuse to acknowledge this problem and refuse to deal with it.
IS THIS SERVICE?????

I feel your pain... I have an older notebook which has generally been a good machine. Every time I got the "HP UPDATE" window, I correctly let it update me, right? WRONG!!! A few months ago, IMMEDIATELY following an update, my notebook completely lost the cd drive... sure it lights up and spins the disk for a few seconds, but then nothing. At exactly the same time, it also lost its ability to pick up a wireless signal. Clearly, whatever was in that most recent update scrambled its brain. I called HP support, but since my machine was out of warranty, they treated me like a street begger and sent me away. (Then had the audacity to send me an email asking how the service was!!!)
I have continued to take the HP Updates hoping beyond hope that one of the new updates will miraculously solve my problems. But, of course, I now get nothing but "No updates available." Well, of course not!
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out what happened here. My advice to anyone who owns a HP is to stop taking the updates just before your warranty expires... OR ELSE!

My Pavilion has not recognized the CD/DVD drive for a over a year now. I invested in new larger HD and RAM so I can use this computer longer so I do not want buy a new laptop. I have tried several fixes including setting up a virtual drive...did not work. I then spent money on an external drive....it gives the same exasperating messge "please insert CD in drive" when one is already there! How frustrating because this drive is necessary for using a laptop, from installing programs, makiing CDs and more....COME ON HP give us a fix. STEP UP H.P.
H.P.: Please tell us how to fix this problem which many of us have. This is my second HP computer and I have purchased two HP printers over the years, but I will not purchase from you again if you do not help us resolve this problem. Thanks.

I long ago upgraded my RAM to the max, but I don't see myself changing the HD. It has been suggested to me that I wipe the whole thing, kill Vista and load 7. Maybe I just call it a lesson learned and get a new one. One thing is certain, though... It wont be a HP!

I have used the fixit several times, but no luck on that either. I had to replace my hard drive when my after my dvd quit working, so I could not install the original software. I installed a copy of vista that I had and used the key from the computer. Now, I can't install all the drivers, because HP has the bios blocked from other software installations. Pretty sorry, if you ask me.

My DVD//CD player is not recognized by the computer...When I used device manager to upload driver answer was "driver found, could not install, register not configured or corrupted", Error 9. I've tried everything....no solution. Any advice? Thanks
