Re: Computer does not recognize CD/DVD drive

Same problem with missing drive. Also sound with a no audio device installed. Tried restores and had partial success but everything went south on a reboot. Not a hardware problem but it is a software issue and seems to come about with SP2.

However I finally solved the problem by buying a Lenovo laptop and relegating the HP to a backup PC under the desk. There will no more HP purchases in this household......

Re: Computer does not recognize CD/DVD drive

I wrote a snail mail letter to HP... guess what... it's your problem... especially if it's out of warranty... never mind it's an obvious defect... hope you didn't buy it for college and expected it to last four years...

Re: Computer does not recognize CD/DVD drive

My computer has the same problem with the optical drive it does not get open only manually and then it does not read the disk and after insertion the green led on the side goes out and device manager says "the drive is missing or corrupted error code 39". I have uninstalled and reinstalled but it did not help. I am scared my computer is only 14 months old and I have done nothing bad to it and I do not understand this trouble. If anyone had the same problem and could solve it, please would you tell me what to do???

Re: Computer does not recognize CD/DVD drive

For the past few days, my computer has not recognized the CD/DVD drive. I have tried everything - registry editors, checking the physical connections inside the computer, system restores, and installing Fix-It programs. Still, the computer does not recognize that drive. I am also wondering if this is a hardware issue. The open button doesn't work. And when I use the bent-paper-clip-in-the-little-hole and can open the drive, it does not read the disc.

Re: Computer does not recognize CD/DVD drive

We might ha ve to try uninstaling then reinstall the driver of the CD/DVD Drive. Please do try going to Device Manager then double-clicked on CD/DVD Drive and under that you will see its driver. Right-click on the drvier then select Uninstall. Reboot the machine.

After restart, please to Recovery Manager then select Hardware Reinstallation then look if the driver of the CD/DVD drive is listed. If not, you can try going to HP.com Support Drivers tab to download the original driver specific for your product.

If this will not work, check if the CD/DVD drive is listed in BIOS by tapping F10 repeatedly upon restart. Then load BIOS defaults by pressing F5. Reboot the machine.

If any of these did not work, you have to do system recovery to rule-out software issues. If recovery willn ot resolve the issue, you already need to replace the CD Drive for it is already HW failure.

What type of discs you are trying to load on the drive?

Hope this will work! :smiley happy:
