Re: DVD/RW drive not reading DVDs

I had the same or simiar issue.  I could play CD and DVD that were factory recorded, and I could burn CD and DVD but I could not read a burned CD or DVD.

I just opened the drive and noticed there were two lenses.  I took a tiny bit of alcohol on a Q-tip and lightly rubbed both of the lenses, then dried them with the other end of the Q-tip.  I put the drive back and it reads my burned DVD just fine now!

Dirty lenses was my problem.

Re: DVD/RW drive not reading DVDs

hi i have a similar problem except it doesn't play both CDs and DVDs (I have a HP Pavillion Slimline 3300f) . When i put the disc in it sounds like the disc doesn't get any spin velocity and when i check with start/computer/DVD it ends opening and saying to input a blank disc/ or disc with data on it.

I have tried most of the other things that people have put on this theard put they haven't worked. So i'm really desperate to hear some other ideas, even if it's something like i should just get it proffesionally checked by someone.
