DVD/RW drive not reading DVDs

I have exactly the same problem with my CD/DVD drive, I'm using Windows 7, I've tried cleaning my lens, uninstalling-reinstalling the drive, enabling-disabling, and updating but it still doesn't works.

It only works with All types of CDs and Audio DVDs but not Movies or Games(DVDs).

I'll be very thankful if someone could help.

I have a HP 6735s compaq notebook. I've got a writer with it, which is- Optiarc RW AD-7561s ATA device. It was working well before. But recently it is just playing CD's or silver discs, but no DVD's are not being read or cant be able to write.
Please help me, I need to install windows 7 using a DVD, and I've bought many dvd's which I cant play or use.

Iv been having trouble with my cd/ dcs drive. Sometimes it worked, but now it is local disk q and I don't have achess to it I'm admin and am denied. Tried everything even the easy cd burner. It can't reed my cds either. Where did f go and how do I get this stupid thing to work. How do I take it back if I got it at Walmart???

I've experienced the same problems as all others have described. I tried all of the suggestions but nothing worked. The repair tools from Microsoft detected no problems. All device drivers/codecs showed they were working correctly.

Although the IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver told me that it was functioning properly, I decided to dump in and then let the Windows Plug and Play feature re-install it. Once I did that, all of the problems vanished, i.e., sound and video again from DVD disks and thumbdrive, correct MS system sounds when they are supposed to play, no delayed shutdown any longer. It would appear that the issue is resolved. I hope this solution works for others. –Paul
