DVD Writer 1040 will not burn DL (Dual Layer) Discs

I have not been able to burn dual layer discs ever since I purchased it.

When I try to burn dual layer discs it will:

1. Burn one layer and abort.
2. Burn both layers and will not close the sessions. 

I searched the Help/Downloads sections with no information other than what is already printed on the side of the box and the install manual that is already in the box. And there are no firmware or driver updates.

What do I have to do to make this DVD drive work correctly and burn dual layer DVD's?!

I did notice that every post made about the DVD1040 (1040d, 1040e, 1040r, 1040i) has never been answered. Why is that?

So... is the a tech or mod that happens to know the answer to my previous posts?

I can't find any drivers/updates for my 1040d either.  Can anyone help?

Unfortunately, The 1040 page does not have drivers or updates of any kind. The only available information is the manual and a simple overview that can be found in the DVD drives original box. The original package came with Nero essentials only. No DVD drivers were packaged within the software.

The DVD drivers available only come with the install from windows (Which happen to be drivers from 2001).

Is there anyone from HP that can give us some help please?

I do not see what DVD authoring software you are using but I prefer to use Imgburn (free software) to burn and it will also give you some info about the drive.  If you have a problem with whatever authoring software you use, you could try DVDFlick.  It also burns with Imgburn and can give you some help finding the problem. (assuming your project is large enough to require a DL DVD).  Some additional info about just what you are doing and what steps that were followed would be helpful.

I have used Nero 7, Nero 9 and Imgburn. In both Nero's I directly open the iso file.Or if I am adding files/folders I drag and drop them over to Nero and make sure that "Write" and "Finalize Disc" options are ticked.In Imgburn, I use the "Write image file to disc" option and open up the mds file.

In all programs I have tried burning at both 4x and 8x speed.

There errors I receive range from:

1. The burn stopping after changing layers
2. Final track does not close
3. Cannot finalise disc
4. "Failed to Read Sector" error when veriyfing the disc after burn

But I never have a error or problem when I burn single layer DVD+-R(RW)'s.

The choice for media may be the cause for the problem you are experiencing.  Many will only use Verbatim DL DVD.  If you have tried to burn DL and used Verbatim media and it still fails, then I would suspect the drive has a problem and give it the pitch.  DVD drives are cheap now and are not worth the aggravation.  If your present drive will not burn DL with Imgburn and Verbatim media, I would forget it and move on.  Just my opinion, though.
