DVD burner does not detect lightscribe media

While trying to burn a label on Lightscribe CD-R, I seen no indication the DVD is doing anything.  No light indicating disk is turning.  As a result I get the message Unable to detect media.  I have updated the lightscribe software an run the diagnostic with no indication of what's wrong.  HP.com had a Sonic software update which I downloaded but no change.  The problem seems to be between the DVD and the Lightscribe program.  Any ideas?

did you install the latest Lightscribe System Software from the site:

I did dnowload the software (twice) but there is no change.  The burner drive works fine when burning audio disks.  When I flip the disk, a CD-R, The drive light initially flickers as though it is aligning itself but when I try to burn a label, there is no flickering of the light in the drive window which I think means the disk is in fact not turning.  Then I get the message unable to detect media.
