Hi, i have a HP Pavilion a1023c and both the dvd-rom drive and the lightscribe drive are not working. XP recognizes them but they give me the error that the registry is messed up or something along those lines so they wont start up. I can open and close them fine but xp wont let me use them. I tried uninstalling both drivers even restarting my computer a couple times I dont know whats wrong is there a way to fix this?
This is the two drives I have
ASUS DVD-E616P3H
HP DVD 640C
This is the error that windos system give me
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Hi,
Log og as an Administrator, download the file on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip
This is a zipped file. If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip which can be used to open this. When 7-Zip is installed, right click on the zipped folder, select 7-Zip, select Extract Files and click ok.
Open the newly extracted folder and double click it to start the script. When you get the confirmation dialogue that the script has completed, restart the PC, let Windows fully load for a few minutes and the check the CD/DVD drive.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
DP-K
