Hi Everybody,
So, I have a HP Pavilion Elite e9180t CTO Desktop PC that came equipped with Vista Home Premium. I upgraded to Win7 Home Premium through HP's upgrade program. I have a Blu-Ray drive and use HP Mediasmart DVD (Cyberlink) for Blu-Ray playback. I am trying to upgrade to the latest version to be able to watch the latest Blu-Ray discs.... Now, if I try to go through the update that is offered by Mediasmart the update fails. I either get stuck in the loop of the installer telling me"cyberlink dvd suite detected in your system please uninstall first" and then it asking me to do so, it then fails to uninstall. Or, if I try to launch the sp44451 that I downloaded from HP Support, I get the "product file definition lost" error.... Basically, I am stuck with a 2.xxx version of the Mediasmart and I cannot upgrade to a 3.xx or 4.xx version... I have been all over the web. I saw this link http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-TV-Tuners-an
-Some people say I should have uninstalled HP Medasmart before my Win7 upgrade from Vista (Ok, I did not. Didn't know had to) But what do I do now instead? How in the heck do I uninstall ver 2.xxx?
-Some people say use Revo Uninstaller to get rid of HP Mediasmart. (I tried it, didn't work and got rid of HP programs I actually liked)
I cannot be the only one out there with this issue, yet I can't find a decent source for telling me how to accurately fix it. I really don't want to have to call HP (India) to try and get this resolved as my previous experiences with them were a joke. Has anyone resolved this problem? Do I just do a fresh reinstall of the OS? I would like to not have to, but if it will solve my problem, then I will. Is there some patch out there I have not found? Any help would be great. Thanks for your time.
P.S. Is there a HP moderator out there watching this who can help?

I would try ordering a set of the Windows 7 recovery disks from HP. Contact HP support and see if that is possible. That way everything is clean for W7. I don't know if your buildID will prevent the W7 recovery disks from working but the disks are fairly inexpensive. Be sure to backup your data.

Spent 2.5 hours on the phone going around in circles with HP support (very nice lady, but ultimately useless) Solved the whole problem with "Nuke and Pave" I could have done all of it in less time than it took me to deal with HP support.

Was there ever an answer to uninstall of mediasmart/Cyberlink DVD software?
I have the same uninstall/upgrade problem. Continually get the message "product definition file is lost" whenever I try to upgrade/uninstall current version, although I did NOT change or upgrade the Win7 OS. The various Cyberlink programs bundled by HP work OK, but cannot be upgraded or uninstalled.
Have tried Comodo program manager to uninstall, but same resulting error message. I can access the programs from my Recovery disks, but cannot install without getting the same error message. Have now spent hours with Cyberlink, HP and MS forums, and googling internet sites. Problem seems to be fairly common, but I'm not about to try all the commercial registry fixing programs out there without someone's confirmation that any particular program actually works without side-effects .
Please advise... anyone?

im having a problem playing new blu rays on my hp windows 7 laptop. i get stuck in a loop every time i wanted to play a blu ray. it kept telling me i needed an update. either pressing yes or no i was getting the same question. i've un-installed theHP MEDIA SMARTt player and now cant get it to load back on. been searching for this update or the fix that HP hasnt come out with. i was wondering if anyone has found a solution.. i wonder if HP will pay for another service that provides software for blu rays since my laptop is still under warranty. i just HATE to call India, i mean HP to find out. i really dont have time to explain this problem to 30 different people.
