I have this dvd writer and it does more failed burns than sucessful. I threw the box in the trash after first few days so i don't have it or any info.
I have put in this number in the search in support and it says it is wrote on the front of the drive and this is the number.
But hp can't find it..i open nero and the info there says 1270d and i have put in that.
Can somebody give me a link to the firmwarea/ or any help on rma for service...
it about a few days away from the trash.
thamks for any help,
jeff

JBag, here is the Select software and drivers section for the 1270d Writer. Be certain that yours is the 1270d before updating the firmware.
I suggest trying CDBurnerXP. I have used it for years without any problems. Also, try different DVD's (+ and -). The (-) is normally compatible with more brands than the (+). When having problems with burning, you can choose a slower speed. This can make a big difference.

Thanks for the link. it has been with regular cd's.
I guess that is why me and alot of people cant find the firmware for the drive, i bought it just as a drive from walmart not as a total system.i googled around and found out that drive is a rebaged lite on drive,so that is what i flashed it with .
i haven't tested it out yet.
thanks for the help.

Yeah i have the misfortune of owning one of these and I can verify that I have the same problems. This junk sits at 99% finalising for over 10 minutes. I was tempted to quit burning but amazingly after sitting there for over 10 minutes at 99% finalising disc it amazingly finished. I hate this thing and I vow to never buy HP again. HP should refund every user for this garbage.

Actually your link takes us to HP Pavilion a1270d not dvd1270d so no this doesn't work. Searching for HP.com for dvd1270d is pointless. HP's support is garbage.

Try calling 866-694-7633. That is the DVD support line, I think.

To chime in, I am having the same issues as described above. The DVD Write and HP are absolute junk. HP is known for selling hardware, i.e. printers, dvd drives and writers, etc., and then in a fairly short period of time discontinuing support and providing current drivers for updated operating systems. I have two perfectly working HP printers that I can no longer use the full functionality of because HP has left me hanging. What they do should be illegal.
I'm also miffed at HP because they no longer will tell the consumers (you and me) how much ink we're getting in a cartridge. Telling me a cartridge will print 1000 page, or whatever, is useless information. How much ink goes on that page? In years past they would tell us the cartridge contains 2 ml or something that's measurable.

Hello.
Problem with lot of DVD-RW drives (15 pcs). Burn DVD9-R (TDK and Verbatim) not begin with error "Recording of DATA-DVD failed". On external 3Q (OEM Optiarc) drive test burn this DVDs - burning ok. I tries burn on multiple speeds: 4x, 6x, 8x. Using software: Ashampoo Burning Studio 9, Ashampoo Burning Studio 2010.
Also I can't identify this model for search new firmware (for try fix this problem):
1. shop info - "HP dvd1270i" - http://www.nix.ru/autocatalog/dvd_rw_dvd_ram/DVD_R
2. On carton box - "HP dvd1270i"
3. On drives label - "HP dvd1270" - without letters
4. In Windows' Device manager - "HP DVD Writer 1270r" (ID string: IDE\CDROMHP_DVD_WRITER_1270R_____________________K
5. HP's RU site have info about only one DVD-RW drive model - "HP dvd1270e"
Which model I bought: 1270, 1270i, 1270r ...or other???
And how burn DVD9 on this strange drives? Where find info about drives? Maybe simple return to seller with reason "1270i in items' description != 1270r really ID string"?
