Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

I recently bought my computer (HP Pavilion a6755y) and have been able to burn data CDs using iTunes.

However, every time I try and burn an audio CD, I have issues, and I'm not sure if it's iTunes or the burner/drive itself. Hoping someone can help me out based on what I describe...

When I burn the CD, I select "audio CD" when the popup appears and leave the other settings as they are. iTunes appears to burn the CD, but once I hear that "finished" noise, the CD doesn't appear in iTunes. When I try and eject it from the CD drive, it won't eject. When I click on the drive in "Computer," it asks me to name the disc and then it says it's write protected. I have to reboot in order for the computer to recognize the disc - and then it appears in iTunes but without track names. When I try and play a song, there is no music. The bottom of the CD looks as though it was burned as a data disc, but when I try and play it in a regular CD player, the tracks are there but blank. When I try and import it back into iTunes, it always freezes on the third track and I have to quit.

I have no idea why this is happening, as as a former Mac user, I'm completely baffled. Help!

Re: Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

UPDATE:

Seems like the CD burned when I used a slower speed, BUT it still wouldn't show up in iTunes and I still needed to reboot my computer to eject the disc. AND, when I open it in iTunes, only the information (song name, etc) for the first two songs appeared, which would relate to the fact that when I've tried importing the disc into iTunes, it always freezes on the third song.

Re: Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

Apparently I'm the only one responding to my thread... :womanwink:

Anyway, turns out the CD only partially burned. It got to song 13. Then song 14 was the same as song 13 but it started in the middle of the song, and the remainder of the songs were nothing, though they did show up as Tracks. I wonder if I burn at an even slower speed (as opposed to 20x) it will work?

Re: Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

I don't think it's the speed of the burn. It could be that song the way it gets burned.

Try to burn using Roxio or Cyberlink software that came with your pc instead.

Re: Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

I have Windows Media Player and Cyberlink - Cyberlink doesn't let me see the music files because they are all in my iTunes folder. For some reason Windows Media Player has some of the music but not all of it, and I can't figure out how to get my whole library into that program.

Sorry, been using Mac for 5+ years and do not know my way around a PC anymore.

So I guess, can someone help me figure out how to get Cyberlink to recognize the files (assuming they are MP4 which is what iTunes uses) or get them all into Windows Media Player?

Thanks!

Re: Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

Ok - I have the EXACT same issue. My Hp Pavillion dv6000 used to be able to burn full cds using iTunes. Now, for whatever reason it always freezes on the 3rd song. I get the first 3 songs fine but then the fourth track gets looped playing the same 3 seconds over and over again. Sometimes it works better and lets me burn 10 songs (I think it might be a time length issue not neccessarily a track issue). But it never lets me complete a whole music cd. I've used CDRW CDR and Lightscribe cds... no format works and I can't burn in any other programs, the itunes won't let me transfer my songs to any other medium. Please help, there must be something going on here, since there are two computer behaving in the exact same way. BTW- I can't find any help for this on itunes.

Re: Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

Ok I solved the problem. :smileyhappy: What you'll have to do if you have this issue is: 1) go to your system information and look and see if any of your drivers need to updated. One way to tell is by looking at your PC baseline score. Otherwise you should go to the hp site and search 'driver updates' then select all the specific info for your pc model. 2)When your done the HP website will give you a list of driver updates to download. I downloaded the 'essential upgrades for windows vista', installed it, and restarted my computer. I initiated burn again (make sure the shuffle option is off for the burn playlist) and it worked, burned the entire cd... FINALLY! If you need more help or something, reply to this post.

Re: Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

Hi I just experienced this exact same problem myself and found that it was most likely because I enabled "Sound Check" in the options page that comes up after you click the "Burn CD" button.  I unchecked the "Sound Check" box and now the problem is gone.

Try that.

Re: Issues Burning Audio CDs in iTunes

Unchecking "Sound Check" solved only part of the problem. Now it recognizes the burnt disc after it's done, but I still can't get the drive to eject from either itunes or "Computer". I have to manually eject using a paper clip or restart. Anyone? Ideas?
