Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

Hi Robert,

If you open Revo, does it show HP MediaSmart DVD as an installed application?

Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

Yes it did prior to removal.  Clicked HP Mediasmart DVD icon and started removal process.  Used moderate mode.  Software removal completed OK then registry search/remove was authorized and completed.  Revo indicated all was OK.  Checked program list and HP Mediasmart DVD program was gone.  I reran Revo and icon for HP Mediasmart was gone!

When I downloaded and ran HP Mediasmart DVD from link, the initial screen indicated Ver 4.2 Rev C.  The install seemed to indicate that files were being extracted but install completed in only a few seconds.  No HP Mediasmart DVD program was actuall installed.

On a hunch, I installed a version of HP Mediasmart DVD from the many other updates suggested by HP.

Download file was: HP-CNB.V4215_2007_Medi_HTS091023-02_Normal.exe.

Size was 61,259KB and ver 4.0.100.1190 with creation date of 10/26/2010.

Program installed!  DVD Screen-Settingts-Update showed version 4.0.2.4215.

Mediasmart DVD got farther than any previous attemps to fix.  Screen asked if I wanted to check for updates - no other version ever did.  Screen asked for DVD/Blu-ray disk to be inserted.  I put a BD movie in drive ( Star trek VI).  Hit play.

Nothing. Mediasmart screen blinked and went back to hit play.

This is probably more than you wanted to know.  The SP50935 really did not install and version indicated that it was

4.0.100.1189.

Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

Hi Robert,

Could you let me know the following.

1.  Do you have AVG or Comodo security software installed on the Pc?

2.  Do you have any virtual drives on the Pc ( ie software such as Daemon Tools ) ?

3.  Did you unpack SP50395 with 7-Zip and directly run the setup.exe file in the extracted folder as detailed in my earlier posts?

4.  Do you still have PowerDVD installed?  Both this and MediaSmart DVD are made by Cyberlink so this may cause a conflict when trying to get MediaSmart DVD to work.

Regards,

Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

[ Edited ]

Previous response did not indicate that I did not unpack SP50935 with 7zip because I could not find folder where the 7Zip unpacked the download program.

I redid the 7Zip unpack and found the expanded files/folders.

I ran Revo Uninstaller to remove the version of HP Mediasmart DVD detailed in my last response.

I ran the setup.exe program from the SRC folder.  Application installed a DVD player.

Started application (screen indicates Touchsmart DVD).  Great news.  I can now play Blu-ray dvds.

Right click on CD/DVD device stilol shows player application as HP Mediasmart DVD.  Everywhere  else it shows as

HP Touchsmart DVD.  Who cares, it works after six months of working with HP.

Thanks so much for your help and patience.

Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

Follow-on to succesfull Blu-Ray play after installing suggested update for a Touchsmart PC in April 2011.  Version installed was HP Touchsmart DVD 4.1.2.4701.

New update available (October 2011?) and I downloaded and installed.  New version 4.1.2.5122.

Now updated software won't play Blu-Ray DVDs.  Error indicates "..not support Blu-Ray playback on a virtual device ...".

I'm now using Nero Platinum 10 suite (Kwik Media) to play Blu-ray disks and it works a-OK.

Thanks for your previous help and this is a FYI.  Question --- why does HP have so much trouble making Blu-Ray disks playon their systems?

Thanks again.

Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

Hi Robert,

That's a good question, but I'm afraid I don't really have an answer.

Recently, HP have made available a version of Cyberlinks PowerDVD 10 for notebooks ( although I believe this should also install correctly on a Desktop ) and it seems to have far less problems regarding bad updates and discs not playing etc.

If you ever want to try this, the Windows 7 installer can be downloaded on the link below.  This is for Windows 7 ( 32bit and 64bit )

Cyberlink PowerDVD 10

Good to hear from you again.

All the best,

Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

Thanks for the 12-03-11 update message.

Cyberlink Power DVD 10 installed and plays BD disks.  New cyberlink software has no connection to HP Mediasmart Touchsmart DVD software.

The HP Mediasmart Touch software (4.1.2.5122) previously installed as part of suggested HP update in 10-07-11 (virtual disk read problems?) was de-installed.  I re-installed version 4.1.2.4701 which did play BD disks.

Version 4.1.2.4701 now hangs in a loop asking me to update this HP version.  I went to the settings menu, selected Update, viewed the Cyberlink Info screen and choose to install the free HP update - Mediasmart/TouchsmartDVD 4.2.  Install process de-installed current version and installed new version.  New   version is same as old non-working version 4.1.2.5122!   We can send men to the moon but HP cannot seem to make their PC's play BD disks.  My Nero Platinum 11 and the new Cyberlink software work!

Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

As for any Blu-Ray or Hd-Dvd and any other high definition quality software for your electronic devices.   YOU PEOPLE need to read the tech news going on at the Consumers Electronics show ( CES Convention in Las Vegas Nevada) this week on the Microsoft site.    Your Blue- Ray Players are only supposed to be good for only 18 MONTHS.  The software uses AACS KEY CODES that must be updated and those software, hardware, movies makers, and Others making thier money on the AACS KEY codes requirement  scam.  Those People don't talk about it  on the public forums of abc, nbc, cbs, and fox over the air broad caster, your local news paper, or any bold print on the packaging for you to see.  The Truth of why your hardware isn't working,  is the software that programs it and plays the Blu-Rays has a TIME LImit . The BD software/hardware doesn't work like your DVD player.  CHECK Out whom is behind the AACS CODE development on the main internet Encyclopedia site.  Your electronics is should last but the software should be eternal.  We all know upgrades in tech will and should come, but not forced on the People and the people won't tell you why in the service.  Haven't you noticed how much money it takes to maintain a blue ray systems, movies, hardware, electricity, your time, taxes etc.  Step back and read the fine print those People change the rules at will and your government helps them along.  I don't believe blue ray is worth all the cost, time, and misdirected solutions one gets.  If you are not buying new software and hardware your are watching nothing in blue ray in about 18 months  to who knows but most People are looking for answers to thier Blu-Ray problems.. The answer is in the agreements you have to accept to even use the products and the legal jurisdictions are so far away and in foreign country's.. I don't know the answers.   YOU Just have to keep spending money and throwing it into and I quote myself " THE BLU-RAY MONEY PIT" I wrote this It is mine And I don't allow anyone to use it  in anyway except in non profit monetary gain.. It is the name of the next great comedy movie, book, magazine story, etc., etc. and it is mine not for personal,  public news, business or commercial use with out my gin and permission.  See what I mean. Hell only those whom gain from this will read it anyway.  I done wrote the first story "the Blu-Ray Money Pit" saying expression is mine and I wrote the first story.  Don't use it I have not given assent.

Re: MediaSmart DVD Suite Software Issue

An interesting article added to this thread.

Where are the proofs that this information is reliable?
