Re: No sound on DVD Movies

Hi,

Launch System Restore from All Programs...Accessories...System Tools...System Restore.  Once you run this program choose a restore point before you played movies on Monday.  Once this has finished and the computer has restarted, see if a DVD will now work properly.

Re: No sound on DVD Movies

Thank you for your help, but I'm still "silent".  I clicked Create ~ put in 9/l/2010 8:00 AM ~ as my restore point ~ clicked Create again ~ was told the restore point was created ~ clicked NEXT ~ it showed my restore point ~ I highlighted it ~ clicked NEXT ~ it restored ~ or said it did ~ to TODAYS DATE!  I've done it 3 times with the same results each time.  How do I delete the "restores" that didn't work?   Any other suggestions to get my sound back?  Thanks!  Patti

Re: No sound on DVD Movies

Hi GrandmaPatti,

I think what is happening is that you are actually creating new Restore points rather than using one that has already been created.

Try this.  When you first launch System Restore left click to select 'restore my computer to an earlier time' then click next.  You should now see a calendar.  Any of the dates in Bold are Restore points.  As it is now October click the arrow in the top left of the calendar box to veiw all of Septembers Restore points.  Click on one of these dates that is before you noticed the audio problem.  The selected Restore Point will now show in the box to the right of the calendar.  Now click Next.  System Restore should now change your computers configuration to the date you selected and will automatically restart your computer.  When it has, log on as normal to see if the problem has been resolved.

Let me know if this works or does not resolve your problem.

All the best,

Re: No sound on DVD Movies

When I go to my 'all programs" I go directly to Accessories ~ which leads me to System Tools ~ which leads me to the System Restore.  When I open Restore, I have only 2 opotions.  A list of restore points ~ and a box  marked Create.  None of the offered points are prior to my problem, so I've created 9/1/2010.  Three times.  It appears on the list that 3 minutes after I create a point, it has been undone  ("undo") .  My points say Manual in front of them.  I can't find a calendar anywhere in the Restore.  That would sure make this easier, but I can't find one.  Does the fact that I'm Vista have anything to do with it?

I  REALLY appreciate your attempts to help me!!!  Patti

Re: No sound on DVD Movies

Hi GrandmaPatti,

Have you tried clicking on 'Choose a different Restore Point' to see if any further Restore Points are available?

Let me know.

All the best,

Re: No sound on DVD Movies

Yes!  That's how I get to my little list of "restore"  "undo"  which I highlighted to choose my newly created point.  However, it appears to me that as soon as I click NEXT, instead of restoring to my date chosen, it does an "undo" of my point.  This is very frustrating!  Thanks again, for your patience in trying to help me.  Patti

Re: No sound on DVD Movies

Hi GrandmaPatti,

Try downloading the AC3 Filter from the link below.

AC3Filter

Once it has downloaded, run the file to install the filter, restart your computer and see if you get any sound when playing a Dvd.

Let me know.

Re: No sound on DVD Movies

I did as you asked.  It didn't help!   I can't think of anything else?  Can you?   Thanks, Patti

Re: No sound on DVD Movies

Hi GrandmaPatti,

When you ran the AC3 file you downloaded did it install ok?

What player do you use to watch Dvd's?

There are still a few things we can try!!!!

Best wishes
