Problems with DVD Drive on Pavilion dv6 2010sa

[ Edited ]

I bought HP Pavilion dv6 2010sa laptop (running Windows 7 x64) less than one week ago.

I started Recovery disk software to back up my OS incase of future diaster.

I used a DVD+ disk, so 3 disks would be needed to make the Recovery Disks.

First DVD completed successfully. Software asked me to enter disk 2.

This is where I started having problems.

The Recovery Disk software failed to recognise my blank dvd+.

The drive made a lot of noise but then stopped making noise.

I tried a couple other blank dvd+ but to no avail.

I restarted the laptop and tried again but same problem.

So I tried playing a movie dvd to see if it was the recovery disk software or the dvd drive.

It would not play a movie dvd.

I also tried playing an audio CD but same problem.

The drive icon appears in Windows explorer but doesn't display any info (or open the CD/ DVD) when I have a CD or DVD in it.

So it appears to be an issue with the dvd drive -> not recognising any CD / DVD's

Can anybody advise?

Ps. I searched for the DVD driver (so I could reinstall driver) but HP website doesn't appear to contain the driver for 2010sa (just DVD software)

Thanks in advance

Gary

Re: Problems with DVD Drive on Pavilion dv6 2010sa

Problem resolved.

Uninstall the dvd drive device:

- Device Manager > right click dvd/cd drive item > uninstall device

Restart laptop and OS will reinstall the driver and DVD/CD drive should start working again (well thats what happened for me)
