Write fails on first try

I have two dvd LightScribe drives on my a6700, the OEM drive and a 1040i transferred from my previous computer.

 

When I use Nero software (Nero 7 Essentials and Multimedia 10 full version) to copy a CD/DVD and use the 1040i and source and OEM as destination drives, the write fails almost every time.  If I use the OEM drive as source and the 1040i as destination, it works every time.

 

Nero Tech Support had no real answers except to slow down write speed. It seems wrong to say that the only way to use software is to reduce or disable its functions.

 

Any one have ideas on why this happens?  Of course I simply use the OEM as soruce and the 1040i as destination now, so no need to suggest that. I also have competing software that works both ways but doens't have as nice an interface. I am curious as to why Nero 7 and Nero 10 both exhibit this behavior, but other programs don't.
