code 19, optical drive issues with 6 month old pavilion.

Model #: p7-1010

 

C:\Windows\system32\drivers\GEARAspiWDM.sys

C:\Windows\system32\Drivers\cdrom.sys

hp DVD A DH16ABLH SATA CdRom Device

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

 

Have used the troubleshooter without accomplishing any good.

Any ideas?

Hi,

 

Try following the procedure under the sub-heading 'Let me fix it myself' on the link below to remove the Upper and Lower filters and see if this helps the issue.

Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.
