I installed the drive today (my first SATA). When the bios comes up, it shows the drive correctly. But when the windows XP background pops up with the load bar, it never loads. The bar keeps moving but nothing ever loads.
So, i boot up XP without the drive plugged in and everything works fine. After the OS loads, I plug in the drive and try to install the dvd drive that way. The installing new hardware icon appears on the taskbar. However, it just sits there not installnig anything. After half an hour of waiting, I check my computer and the dvd drive is not showing.
Is this the result of a bad drive? I dont have another computer with SATA capabilites so I cant check it out that way.

Use system restore to go back to before you installed the drive. This should replace the hung up registry keys.
Make sure you restart the PC at least once ofter restoring and then turn off the PC.
Install the drive and turn it on. I would not hot swap the drive.
