HP 6350z GPU upgrade

I am planning on buying a 450 Watt PSU and an nVidia GTX 460 soon, but I just need some help on whether or not anyone has managed to fit a card of this size into this Pavillion case.

I have pictures of the inside of the case (should the wires be like this?)

Also I am concerned about the miniature heatsink on the opposite side of the card slot from the CPU, will this disable my card from sitting in the slot properly?

I really need help before I go out and buy it.

Re: HP 6350z GPU upgrade

The new GT 460 is a shorter card ~(8.5") compared to some.  However they are double wide so the slot adjacent to the PCI-E x16 needs to be empty.

Some of the newer video cards fail to work in some PCs.  The motherboard, bios and card all have to work together.  Know what the return policy is before you buy.  EVGA announced a GT 460 with External Exhaust that you might want to consider.

Re: HP 6350z GPU upgrade

So what about the mini heatsink beside the slot will that obstruct my card path? Or is the card tall enough to get over it?

Re: HP 6350z GPU upgrade

Get your tape measure out and do some measuring.  I don't think that heat sink is going to be an issue.

Re: HP 6350z GPU upgrade

I did my mesuring and it shows that the card will end at the second blue RAM slot. My final question is, does the card body usually stand a bit higher than the slot mouth?

Re: HP 6350z GPU upgrade

You have to decide for yourself if the GT 460 has the needed clearance.  This is a very new card.  Look at the picture on the link.  The card should stand a bit higher than the slot.

Re: HP 6350z GPU upgrade

Know what the return policy is before you buy and make sure the PSU has enough amperage on the 12+ volt bus.
