HP Blackbird 002 Upgrade

I own an HP Blackbird 002 with a CPU water cooling system and I recently purchased an ASUS P8Z68 motherboard but the component that holds the water cooling block doesn't fit into the holes around the CPU and I don't know what to do, I assumed all ATX motherboards would be the same...

And I don't even know if I could call any tech support since voodoo seems to be non-existant.

Re: HP Blackbird 002 Upgrade

Your new motherboard uses a different CPU socket design -- the Intel Socket 1155 -- than the old mobo, which used Socket 775.  You need a mounting bracket for the CPU cooler that fits the new socket.  I found one at Puget Systems: search for Asetek LCLC/550LC Retention Ring + Back Plate (775/1155/1156/1366) or http://www.pugetsystems.com/store/item.php?cat=Accessories&id=6417&com=d41d8cd9&que=Asetek

Good luck with your rebuild.

Ben

Re: HP Blackbird 002 Upgrade

Will the retention ring + back plate from a Corsair H100 work?

Re: HP Blackbird 002 Upgrade

Probably not.  The H100 on-cpu cooling unit is differently shaped than the H40, and I believe is manufactured by Coolit rather than Asetek.  If you had access to a H40, its bracket would work.

Re: HP Blackbird 002 Upgrade

Oh, I should clarify: if you wanted to replace the entire Asetek LCLC (as used in the OEM Blackbird) with a Corsair H100, that should work.  I took you to mean that you were considering grafting the H100's bracket onto the previous cooler.
