Upgrade graphic card for better gaming - Pavillion P6360SC

Hi

I have a Pavillion P6360SC with a graphic card ATI Radeon HD 5450 and need to upgrade it to a better ATI (or similar?).

I play the latest MMORPG Star Wars Old Republic (but have difficulties with my ATI 5450).

Is it possible to use for example ATI Radeon HD 6950 in my HP Pavillion?

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Processor: Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz
Motherboard: MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E)
RAM: 4GB
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5450

Best regards,

Jimmy Svensson

Re: Upgrade graphic card for better gaming - Pavillion P6360SC

Hi Jimmy,

The P6360SC only has a 300 watt power supply so the Radeon 6950 is a no unless you want to replace the power supply and measure to see if the card will even fit.

Open up your PC and do some measuring in parallel with the PCI-E x16 slot to see how long of a video card will fit. The slot adjacent to the PCI-E x16 slot needs to be vacant. Look carefully at the motherboard and makes sure that components on the motherboard don't interfere with the installation of the video card.

Thanks for fast reply!

Is there another Radeon graphic card that could fit and be fine?

Re: Upgrade graphic card for better gaming - Pavillion P6360SC

Hi Jimmy,

Most of if not all of the mid-range and higher AMD Radeon video cards stipulate at least a 400 watt power supply. The recommended video cards are close to the upper mid-range video cards and higher.

If you don't want to upgrade the power supply the below video card is something to consider.

An older but excellent video card is the NVIDIA GT 240 1GB DDR5. This card doesn't support DirectX 11 which is optionally used in some of the newer PC games but it is an excellent performer.

Review the ATI and NVIDIA performance specifications. Look at the memory bandwidth specifications and the DirectX level support.
