Hello my question is whether or not i can still use the original hard drive that came with the system (HP Pavilion p6361sc desktop pc) if i change the motherboard to either a Asus or Gigabyte? It came with Windows 7 pre-loaded (no cd's included) installed and i fear that the hard drive is connected to current motherboard.

Hi Patrick,
Why do you want to replace the motherboard? Your PC has a decent motherboard.
Yes you can use the same hard drive. However, the Windows OEM license will need to be reactivated (probably by phone) assuming that the system will even boot. The other HP value added software may not work and the HP recovery disks will not work (which you never made). The new motherboard will have new on board hardware devices so you will need use the driver CD that comes with the motherboard to load the correct drivers.
My advice is if you by a new motherboard then consider buying a new Windows license.
Your PC has some upgrade potential. Upgrade the power supply and then install a good video card. If the games that you are using are CPU hungry then you could replace the processor. Do the PSU and video card first if you haven't already done so.
