Are there any dirvers other than the ones on the hp site that work with the Firebird's two 9800s cards? The ones from HP are a few years old and was wondering if there are any from nvidia that work. Thanks for your time

I have been using these:

                                      Nvidia Vista 64bit 190.38

with a great deal of success across many different game engines.

There is a NEW family of drivers that have just come out, that are supposed to support our GeForce 9800 S cards. Here is a thread about them:

Bottom line, people are having differing levels of success with upgrading the video driver on our Firebirds. This was a constant debate back at The Next Bench.

I have been using these 197.45 with not problem

I tried the 197.45, they instlled ok but my WEI Aereo and 3D Gaming scores fell and I had a significant drop in FPS in most of the games that I play. So, I stayed with 190.38 until this week, when I installed the 257.21. My WEI scores stayed the same and I am getting as good-better FPS in most games. Ran into a problem running Prey, since the update, but that might not be driver related, still checking that out.

If you haven't updated to 257.21, I would suggest checking it out. It is a stable driver with some really nice new features.

Don't look at WEI.  Use 3dmark to see if your drivers are giving you better synthetic performance.  Use your favorite games to see how much actual performance you are getting.

Yeah, I used to use 3D Mark, but now I like Unigine much better as it has DX11, DX10 & DX9 tests and scores. Yeah, I used the Unigine and the FPS dropped 30% and more (with 197.45)! But I have posted about 257.21 1ke, like, a week ago and they are great performers on the Firebird. SO, I would suggest upgrading to the 257.21, they also have some really nice CP features.

I always found that the WEI scores are quite representative of performance over a wide range of engines, and if you use Games Explorer and Games 4 Windows scores... well it is much easier for people who don't have 3D Mark or Unigine and aren't like driver-heads. So, WEI is accurate and easy to use.

Fair enough.  I change my opinion.  Just update drivers.  If you like the performance you are getting in your favorite games, keep em.  If not, just roll back.

If anyone is still running their Firebord 802/803, like me, the newest driver that works well is 266.58.  I am playing Rift with these drivers @ 1920x1060 on high settings and getting 40-50 FPS steady.

Does anyone still use their FB? I am playing all the newest games on mine with great results. FFXIV, Mass Effect 2, Just Cause 2, and Rift. Ran the Crysis 2 demo on my FB, got good FPS... BUT there was a problem, it ran with the 3D Vision enabled and I could not get it to shut off.

I tried to install that driver and it said "no supported hardware found".

Are you on Vista or Windows 7?
