Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

OK, I have just checked my computer (I was out of town for the past two weeks). I see that:

 1) I am running 266.58 driver, sorry for posting the wrong version.

 2) Here are the instructions for Drive Sweeper.

There are two methods to use Driver Sweeper.
Both methods achieve the same results. This method is always able to clean all files.

This method will delete remaining files upon reboot (if deleting failed).  You can clean your drivers this way:

  • Use the official uninstaller(s) of the driver(s) you want to uninstall.
  • Reboot your PCin Safe Mode.
  • Run Driver Sweeper and select what to clean.
  • Analyse lists all the entries possible to remove, cleaning removes the entries selected.
  • More drivers can be selected for the same cleaning process.

Last, I hope that I have helped, with your problem. I have have... a 'Kudos' would be nice... :smileyhappy: I will continue to monitor this thread, so if you have further questions or help let me know. I am back in town and have access to my FIREBIRD 802. Dang, I LOVE this computer!!!

{Just asking, but WHO is going to spring for my Q9650 CPU upgrade???}  :smileywink:

Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

Thank you for the response, I appreciate it very much. Figuring that I probably did something wrong along the way, I decided to just wipe clean, reformat, and reinstall Windows 7 from the beginning. I talked to an HP support guy who said to disconnect the internet while installing and have the drivers from HP's website for Window 7 on a flash drive. I then installed those, specifically the unified graphics driver, and the realtek audio. After restarting, I went to auto update the drivers for the display adapter. It updated the nforce 760i and both 9800s to 266.35. So they should be working alright. The problem I have now is that I have no NVIDIA control panel with which to turn on SLI or not. At this point I don't even know if I should have it or not. Do you have it as a default?

Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

It installed 266.35? Yes, the 'No Control Panel' is a real problem with NVIDIA drivers. I, personally, have never had it happen to me but I hag e seen people plagued with this problem. EASY (try) fix; go back to NVIDIA web site and download and install NVIDIA 'System Tools'. It is the 6.05 version the HP web site has the 6.03. Now, once you install the system tools you can change the lights on the computer AND it 'should' fix the problem getting to your control panel. Now, if it doesn't work, let me know and I will look up other fixes. Oh, I think that the whole reformat and install was a good idea. I think you had a corrupted inf in your Windows installation.

Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

Found some information about the 'Control Panel' issue, here:

NVIDIA Control Panel is missing after performing clean install

Thought that might help.

Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

I'm having the IDENTICAL issue and it's killing me.  It doens't matter what driver or n force drivers I download and install correctly, SLI is not working amnymore.

ENABLE SLI is protected and grayed out in most versions of NVIDIA control panel, and on some, depending on driver I've tried, some control panel versions don't even have SLI in the option tree.

Should I just toss this FPOS box and get another one?

I'm about to go postal.

Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

AGC072 have you executed a restore of the original driver? If you have the 'D' drive from the original build or made a restore disc you can just restore the video driver. Restoring it this way will likely resotre SLI then you can updatebto any driver you want... going 300x or above you have a high likelyhood of facing the same problem. I use one ofnthe 295x or 296x on my Firebird.

Good luck!

Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

Here is my problem. I replaced the two hardrives that came in Firebird with two 64GB SSD in Raid 0.  I installed Windows 7 from scratch.  Could this be my issue?

HP says I have to pay for support for them to fix it.  Do you think they can fix it?  I don't have any harddrives that came with it.  My friend gave me his Firebird and kept his old harddrives.

Am I hosed?

Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

I've done two clean installs of Windows 7 and two clean installs of Windows 8 Pro on my two Firebirds without any problems. Paying HP or doing a System Restore from the original hard disks is completely unnecessary.

First thing to avoid. Do not let Windows Update install any Nvidia Display Drivers. If any Nvidia Display Driver updates show up while installing Windows, or after, right click on them and select Hide.

I usually don't install any drivers while installing Windows until after it's completely installed and updated.

At this point you can either install the nForce 15.56 WHQL driver from the Nvidia website, or let Windows Update install the NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller and NVIDIA nForce System Management Controller.  I've tried both and both work fine. The nForce 15.56 WHQL driver package is more complete and includes a Storage Manager which I find somewhat reassuring to check the status occassionally of my RAID arrays on my two Firebirds.

I haven't found it to be necessary to install the GeForce driver included in the nForce 15.56 WHQL package. It's quicker to skip it but since you're having some problems it might be reassuring to try installing it. If it doesn't install correctly there's not much sense in continuing before fixing the problem.

I would recommend you try installing GeForce driver version 266.58 from the Nvidia website now before trying to install a newer driver with a modified INF file. I usually skip this display driver, and the display driver in the nForce package, and install GeForce driver version 296.10 with a modified INF file but I know it works for me. If I was having the sort of problems you're having I'd take it one step at a time.

It's easy to get ahead of yourself and cause yourself more problems, especially since even the most well-intentioned advice can sometimes cause more problems than it solves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 x HP Firebird 802 + 2 x HP 2159m monitor + Windows 7 Home Premium + Windows 8 Pro with Media Center
GeForce Driver Version 266.58 WHQL installs correctly without modification.
GeForce Driver Version 296.10 WHQL requires modified NV_DISP.INF file to install correctly but Nvidia Control Panel is broken.
GeForce Driver Version 314.22 WHQL requires modified NV_DISP.INF file to install correctly but 2-way SLI is broken.

Re: Vedeyn: Firebird 802 Graphic Drivers..

I'm pretty tech savy, but I was at the end of my rope.  I had to pay.  I was wondering about windows 8.  Think it's too risky?  I have the oem bbuilder disc, but haven't used it yet.

7 is running solid for me.  I'm scared to even try.
