Hello all, I have been tring to figure out what type of PCI x16 slot i have and can't find it anywhere... I have a HP Pavilion p7-1080t that has a h61 chipset "hp carmel mobo" and I can't figure out if its 2.0, 2.1, or just a plan old x16... also wether or not its GDDR3. Any help would be super duper, That way I can buy a GPU and start playing BF3. CHEERS!

Hi,

Download PC Wizard to confirm the internal configuration of your PC.  I would not worry about the PCI-E bus specifications.

A fast video card with a matching power supply should do job. Even then the video card size might also depend on quality settings (low, medium, high, ultra etc..) and the screen resolution.  The system requirements listed on the box (I have BF3) for a video card indicate a NVIDIA 560 or Radeon 6950 or better. Also a quad core with 4GB running 64 bit is also mentioned.

Re: carmel mobo question

Yea basicly looking to find out if its a PCI Express 2.0 or 2.1. That way I can just get a Med grade card something that can work with a 400psu and fit in a low profile or just take up one slot, cheers!

Hi,

Is the slot adjacent to the PCI-E x16 slot open?

Please post the exact HP product number for your PC.

The HP p7-1080t  PC only has a 300 watt power supply so where did 400 watts come from?

Re: carmel mobo question

Well I have heard of 400watt cards used on a 300watt system IE-my friends setup. Where would the product number be located? And I'm not sure its completely stock. P7-1080t PC mt Intel i5-2400s/ci5-2.50g 6144mb/3-dim 1tb/7200rpm gbe intel-hdigp/1696mb w7hp-64. That's all I have for info on it as of now I bought it recertified. Sorry for lack of info, so its not a 2.0 or 2.1 then?

Re: carmel mobo question

Hi,

Look on the bottom of the PC for the product number or use the HP Support Assistant.

What did PC Wizard indicate about the PCI slot version?

We typically stay with the power supply recommendation that is stipulated by the the video card manufacturer.
