When the PC boots it brings error 1801 could you help me slve this . or do i install a new O.S

That error means you have installed an unsupported processor.

 

You need to install a supported processor.  See page 4 for the list of supported processors.

so how do i upgrade cause the processors specifics are as follows

pentium 4

2GHZ/512/400/1.525V

SL6GQ COSTA RICA

3242A261 - 1544

It seems to me that the processor you listed should have worked.

 

There are no microcode updates listed on the d500 support page.

 

Do you have the latest BIOS revision installed?

 

There are two different BIOS updates listed.

 

One for the Compaq Models with a 686P2 (v3.14A) Family ROM and one for the 686Y2 ROM (v3.04A)

 

If you have the 686Y2 ROM, that BIOS update adds support for the newer Pentium processors.

 

  • Adds support for up to 3GB of memory.
  • Adds support for Pentium C1 stepping microprocessors.

Your processor has the CO step according to the link below.
