HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Would like to add a PCI-e Thunderbolt card to my desktop motherboard (MSI 2AE0).  Does the MB support TB?

Thanks,

Bill

How about identifying your HP desktop PC with its product name or product number. At least post the HP name for the motherboard.

This is not an enthusiast website (I.E.  the ASUS ROG website) where it is all about the motherboard.  😉

Unfortunately, this question is ALL about the motherboard and a particular capability.

OK, I thought I was clear, this is an HP Envy running a stock MSI (2AE0) motherboard (built for HP Envy desktop PC's), all I want to know is whether the motherboard (HP specified) supports Thunderbolt or not, just a simple yes or no would suffice.

With some further research and inference, it appears no, since this technology is only stated ("certified") to work in their Z series computers (with Intel motherboard chipsets) and then only with an add on $200 PCI-e adapter.

So much for attaching an external storage device that is TB enabled (also USB 3 but much slower interface).  Hardly an enthusiast question, but thanks anyway.

Here is how it works.

When we know which HP product we are dealing with or have the HP motherboard name then we are able to research to find information.

You have not given me the HP product name or product number or the HP motherboard name.

That makes this extremely difficult.

HP does name their motherboards.

They have names like Thimpu and others as an example. Thimpu is an actual HP motherboard name.

You may have noticed how the forum is organized and also notices that there is no section for motherboards.  There is a reason for that.

HP is not in the business to sell motherboards to consumers as a general practice.

If you would like some help then please work with us on this, not against us.

Provide us with the information we need and then we as HP Experts will try our best to help you find the information that you need.

If you know it is an MSI 2AE0 motherboard then MSI should have the information you need.
