Hi,

The problem I have is that the DVD drive on the PC will not read ANY DVD discs.

Music and Data CD's can be read without problema, it's just DVD's which will not read (they read fine on my brother's pc).

The Device Manager shows no issues, and I have run the Hp Diagnostic tool to test the DVD drive.

It was unable to even perform the test with a DVD in the drive.

Although if I put a CD in, rather than a DVD, the test was performed without problems.

I have the latest drivers installed for the DVD, and a Full Anti Virus scan of my PC shows no issues. This leads me to think the DVD drive is faulty.  The pc is practically brand new, so of course under warranty.

Anyone have any ideas that I could try?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the reply - I have tried all the things that were mentioned in the help page that you linked to.

I have also run the HP Diagnostics program, accesed by pressing F2 on boot up.

I performed the Optical Drive test which was completely unable to read any DVD.

The Optical Drive test passed when a CD was inserted in the drive - it is DVD's that cannot be read.

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. Recommend you to clear the upper and lower filters as suggested in Step 6 in this article

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion.

I have done step 6 and cleared lower filters. No upper filters were seen.

Movies are still not playing with an error message "No disk in drive" showing. They are definetly DVD video and not blu-ray.

I have checked the region (2) and done all the checks listed on the support pages provided and found on the HP site. I have looked for the latest driver update with the PC saying the current one installed is the latest. Audio, data CDs are all fine. The discs tested all work on other PCS.

A new finding that I have not mentioned before is that some older DVD (woodwork craft instruction circa 2003 manufacture) all work no problem.

Any further clues?

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. May I know the media player you are using to read these DVDs. Recommend you to try other popular players on online and check if you are able to play the DVDs.

If possible, try those DVDs on any other computer and check. Are the DVDs region protected?

If the issue persists, please contact our phone support for the service options.
