Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi.

 

I need to use lot's of graphic processing and video ram in my z800, but right now i'm using a Quadro FX3800, and it's not doing well...

 

Also, I do use to game in my z800, so, here is the question:

 

What is the best dual gpu configuration compatible with my z800? As i know, only QUADRO are suported on this motherboard right?

Hi,

 

Please post the HP product number for your PC so that the members of the community can better assist you with your questions and issues.

 

Your existing FX3800 graphics card by today's standards is mid to low end.   I am sure that it's a good card for low end CAD/CAM functions.

 

I would suggest that you consider only one graphics card and shelf the Quadro FX3800 since it's an old legacy card.  You can review the newer Quadro graphics cards here.

I have linked 2 items. The first is the z800 specs with all the recommended cards. The second link is a comparison of the quadro 6000 ($3400+) vs the FX 3800..... Never realized this $$$$ just for a card.

So, the Quadro 6000, for example, in SLI is compatible? Will that carry on some modern games too? ( My Z800 is my personal workstation, but also my personal time-killer ).

Who mentioned SLI? I didn't see any official HP documentation stating that SLI would work or even being supported for that matter.

Ok, the point here is: I need vram performance but also i need gaming performance. That's why i asked for SLI, can I do 2x gtx980 for example? Or 2x quadro 6000?

Hi,

 

You know by the manual what HP has stated for support.  Do you see SLI or Crossfire mentioned as a supported functionality?  An unknown for you if whether your applications will even benefit from SLI or Crossfire even if you get them working as such. Some applications will benefit and some don't.  Do you want to roll the dice?

 

I still believe that one replacement graphics card should suffice your requirements unless you have not totally stated what your requirements need to be.

 

You could pick up another graphics card or two on consignment or trial and see what happens.

Just thought to let everyone know in this old topics. 

 

There's NO Pro application (specially graphics & compute intensive) support SLI config. NOthing.

 

To enable Graphics acceleration & computing, GPU must run individually and managed from NVCP (Nvidia Control Panel>Workstation Tab), or Thru BIOS>PCIe config.  OR if your Application support to config multiple GPU resources, like Davinci Resolve (up to 8 GPUs for Realtime Playback, Background Encoding & Debayering), Autodesk Flame with Dual GPU (2nd GPU for Background Rendering), Adobe After Effects (for Interactions & GPU Accelerated FX), etc.    For CAD software, 1 Quadro 6000 is more than enough. Unless if you use specific Rendering engine like V-Ray, Octane, iRay (prev Mental Ray) that allows you to render using GPU. 

 

You still can do gaming. but not on SLI.  Choose either one, or build a Gaming pc separately. 

 


Additional info to understand:  

  • Quadro:  Typical usage:
    • intensive graphics & computing (Rendering, Encoding, Real-Time playback, Simulations, advance Calculations, DeepLearning, etc)
    • Lower FPS on gaming (depends on model and config)
    • ECC support for stability and reliability
    • Newer Model Support VR
  • GeForce: Typical usage:
    • Gaming
    • Virtual Reality
    • Visualization
    • General 3D Modeling application
    • Video Editing

 

On my Z800, i use Dual Quadro 6000 and got more performance & stability compared to latest i7 PC in 2017 with Fermi GTX.

 

So i hope anyone find this useful.
