I'm trying to upgrade to a Radeon RX 480 card.  I've upgraded the PSU to a 600 W Corsair.  I've been running a XFX Radeon 6950 with no issues.    I've had the 480 working in another machine so I know the card is fine.  I'm wondering if the 480 is even compatible with the motherboard.  I can't find information on its compatibility.

@ArcFlashAvoider, welcome to the forum.

I believe that your problem is caused by the fact that the RX 480 requires UEFI in the motherboard instead of a Legacy/standard BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012.  The BIOS can't be upgraded to UEFI.  I suggest that you contact the manufacturer's Tech Support to see if they can help you with a VBIOS update for the card that will allow it to work with UEFI.
