I want to upgrade the video card with a GEForce GTX660 as I am unable to play battlefield 3 online currently and have to keep all settings on low.
The motherboard has a PCI X16 gen 2.0 slot while the GE force card is for a pci x16 GEN 3.0 SLOT.
The question is are these compatible or will I lose some speed or functions. Also, will the PSU need upgrading and will the current processor be able to keep up with the new video card.

First try turning down the game settings to low and see how the game plays. You may not like the displayed images but this may tell you if your internet service is too slow and/or whether the gaming server is having problems (common issue with gaming servers). You can also test BG3 offline and see how it runs at different settings.
The NVIDIA 660 will not have a problem running BF3. I ran BF3 on a NVIDIA 460 using the high to ultra settings and the also with the NVIDIA 660. You shouldn't have any issues with BF 3 and the NVIDIA 660.
You will need a 500 watt power supply. I recommend the Corsair CX500.
The below HP articles provide additional information about installing a video card using Windows 8. These articles may not apply to your situation depending on the BIOS and BIOS settings in your PC.
The current processor in your PC has more than enough power for BF3.
