Here's something interesting:   I formatted the USB drive to NTFS and now I'm getting 2x the rate as before!

That is something I forgot to mention.  What was it before? FAT32?

Actually I had experimented with different disk formatting on drives to get better performance out of my NAS.  I completely forgot about that aspect of things.

Hi,

 

If you are going to try HDTune, then use the largest block size possible for your tests. You might not see any improvemenet if using small objests.

I'm suprised this formatting isn't mentioned in the install instructions if it makes such a difference.   

 

The bottom line seems to be if you need to copy a large number of relatively small files then you're not going to get anywhere near advertised speeds.    I got around 8 MB/s with the files I copied.   When using the Flash performace tester the speed got very slow with small files...
