What PC models do you have?
Did you get any Window or HP software/driver updates priort to it happening?

Try manually updating your audio driver:

My computer is dv4-1120us windows vista home premium 64bit. I have tried upgrading the driver and it seems to work but than i get the error message a couple of days later. I also end up with the sound going into mute and I can't get it out of mute without rebooting.
I've searched for the Sigmatel cmajor driver and it always ends up being a dell computer item.
I am also having the same problem with my toshiba vista laptop.
