Would like to upgrade my Pavilion a4310f that currently has two banks of 2048 MB/DDR3 SDRAM to support 8 GB of RAM? Indications on HP support is that it cannot be done but it is unclear. I have found 4GB 240-pin DIMM and wonder if those would work.

Hi,
From the following specs, it supports 4GB max
http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c01949097
Very confusion actually, with the following information but I believe it supports 2x2 DDR3 RAM.
Memory upgrade information
- Dual channel memory architecture
- Two DDR3 DIMM (240-pin) sockets
- Supported DIMM types:
- PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)
- PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
- Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
- Supports 2GB DDR2 DIMMs
- Supports up to 4 GB* on 32 bit PCs
Regards.
