HP Compaq DC5850 SFF
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello, I am wondering what CPU my computer can upgrade to. I have a HP Compaq DC5850 Small form factor with a HP 3029h motherboard. I currently have an AMD Athlon 2x 5000B 2.6 GHz CPU, 4GB of ram (Soon to be 8), and an AMD Radeon HD 7570 128-Bit low profile graphics card.

I was wondering if i could upgrade my CPU from an AMD Athlon II 5000B 2.6 GHz to an AMD Phenom x4 9750 2.4 GHz CPU with a thermal design power (TDP) of 95. Please tell me if i can or cant upgrade. I have been wanting to upgrade for a while now, and i like this CPU alot.

This is the best CPU you can upgrade to according to the QuickSpecs sheet.

No you can not upgrade to the AMD Phenom x4 9750.

The AMD Phenom X4 9750 (95W) is a Socket AM2 / Socket AM2+ processor, based on Agena core. There were also 20 AMD Agena chips, that work in the same socket.

The AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000B is based on Brisbane core, and it uses Socket AM2. There were also 48 AMD Brisbane parts, that work in the same socket.

I was looking into this earlier, and people are saying i can use an AM2+ CPU in my AM2 socket? I am not sure if this is true or not...

The socket may work but do you think that the BIOS would need to be modified because one is an Agena core and the other is a Brisbane core???

Do you think the CPU chip set could be different???

Yeah, it can be different. You know that a motherboard will work with more than 1 core type. And if HP says on their site it will work... it'll work.
