Envy Phoenix 860-020d
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I am using hp envy phoenix 860-020d which shipped with 128GB SSD & 3TB HDD.

I read that the motherboard is actually able to support additional SSD/HDD& i can see that there's one extra slot that is unused. However, when i contacted HP Cust Support, they informed me that my desktop does not support additional drive.

Has anyone tried installing additional drive? Will this work?

Thanks!

Hi Erico,

Thanks for the fast reply.

Is there any other way i can buy an additional hard disk power connectors for the PSU?

I'd like to avoid buying a new PSU if possible.

Thanks!

You will have to take a look  inside of the case to see what power connectors are available.

One thing to consider is the power connectors that are used with the optical disk drive.

Personally, I no longer have much use for CDs or DVD disks.

I have a USB external optical disk drive for those times.  I put ISO files and music on USB flash drives.

If the SSD that you purchase has enough capacity, you can clone your boot disk to it. Once that is done, you can put it in the boot disk's position. That would take care of  the need for the PSU SATA power connector.

Sur.

The motherboard has four SATA ports and only three of them are in use.

An SSD does not take up very much space.

You could actually use a piece of double-sided tape to secure it in place.

If you have the original PSU, that may be a problem as there are not likely to be any extra hard disk power connectors inside the case. That can be resolved by replacing the PSU with an upgraded modular unit. Check out Corsair's offerings. It will need to be around 450 Watts or better.
