Hi,

I'm a bit new to upgrading old computers, so I've got some questions.  Has anyone ever tried upgrading the DC7900 SFF with a Quad -Core q9550S?!   I know this cpu is not on the list of  "compatible" processors,

but my first Cpu-upgrade was also not listed as "compatible" with my sytem a few years ago.

I believe it was the Phenom II X4 955 95w version (normal 125w)  but it did work flawlessly!

So far I've upgraded my system with 8 GB Ram (4x 2GB Hynix PC2 6400 800Mhz)  windows 10 Pro and the Sapphire Radeon HD6450 1Gb Silent Gpu.

Since the Psu is not upgradable for the SFF model (at least I haven't found any yet without having to damage the upper-plate 😉 )  that 240 Watt of power supply is gonna prevent me from upgrading to that Q9650.

By the way, I'm planning on upgrading the Gpu to a gt730 low profile card;  there are a few people who made that upgrade with no problems and although it might be a bit risky I'm willing to give it a try.  (Ofcourse the q9650 is out of the question than)

If only that Q9550s could work; it's the same socket (Ibelieve), so why wouldn't it work?!

Best practice for upgrading a CPU requires that two things that must be satisfied.

1) It must be the same socket type

2) It must be supported by the BIOS.

If a CPU is the same socket type it still may work, for a while perhaps, but that is a gamble you are taking with your local currency, bank account, and your data. 🙂

Yeah, it's a gamble i know 😉 willing to trie. This guy got the most out of (sort of) a similar set up.

Would be great to bring new life to this old piece of equipment!

The only thing is that you may have a problem with the newest games.

Even though the GPU (GTX 1060) makes the cut for the game's system requirements,  the CPU may not make the list for the system requirements.

Good luck with the upgrade! 🙂

Yes I know, upgrading one part just removes the "bottleneck" to another part of hardware.

In my case it's the psu now.
My goal is not to make a high end gaming pc; that's simply impossible with this mobo and SFF case.

Just want to get the most out of it.
Goal is the Gtx750 ti in combination with Intel Q9550s. Both GPU gtx750ti and S-version of Q9550 are low-power parts which (perhaps) shouldn't give me too much problems with my 240W limited PSU.

Thanks for your reply; appreciate it!!!
